TEXTURE

Contrast in the garden is powerful

There are three elements of planting design to help guide us when arranging plants in our gardens. These include FORM, TEXTURE and COLOR. These should be considered in that order...form first, texture, then finally color. Form is the most consistent, while color is the most fleeting. This garden design guide will focus on the middle element: TEXTURE.

.....

Texture exists most of the year and in some cases (with evergreens)...all year. Creating the right texture combinations in a planting makes it pop. If you have a garden with strong forms and contrasting textures, color isn't even needed...your plant composition will look fabulous through most seasons.

.....

Texture is not only important in planting design, but also in how plants interact with their surroundings and hardscape combinations.

TEXTURE RESOURCES in our DESIGN LIBRARY

We covered texture back in Garden Design Guide .006 as part of the FORM + TEXTURE + COLOR Overview. You're welcome to step back and take a peek at that guide below.

This Garden Design Guide provides an elements of planting design overview and how these are important to the plant composition as a whole.
